05-17-15 #15 Yard Movements

Unread postby Larry Sullivan » Sun May 17, 2015 1:26 pm

Thank you to Sharon for the heads up of #15 moving today.
A note on today's videos - I don't have to time to re-edit out the wait times as I usually do. so there is some time with nothing going on for a few minutes -- I'll re-edit and re-post during the week, just wanted to get something posted for today.

After doing some switching in the South yard, 15 comes up and moves the caboose and open gondola from the depot track.

#15 hooks up to #487 tender and moves it a couple hundred feet, then goes back to South yard.

So much is going on its hard to figure out what they are trying to accomplish. I am sure all will be made clear when they are finished.

More switching ending up with three cars spotted on the depot track. This may have something to do with the Friends work session this week. Someone with better knowledge than I could perhaps fill in the blanks.

I was thinking that there must be a work session coming up and these cars are in for a little TLC.

Well now, they went into the yard that you can't see and came back with 2 Gramps tank cars all painted white and shining in the sun, without lettering. They is going to be a busy bunch this coming week.

I believe those were the cars they sand blasted and primed last year.

Looks like 15 shoved the 489 out the back of the engine house. Now its in front so maybe they had to hook up the tender.

The yard is taking on a "new" look with opening day approaching. Some of the Friends Cars are prominently spotted by the parking lot. The tank cars are in position for one of the work sessions coming up. All will make for some interesting photo ops and be out for the general tourist population to see. Looking Good!

#489 has now been pulled out in front of the engine house, still wearing the Rio Grande lettering, and #15 has run around to the back, I suspect to shove #463 inside. It's been a busy afternoon!

I was thinking how good it would be if they could get 487 back together and have all 5 locos lined up for a family portrait while they are all in Chama -- likely not to happen, but a fun thought anyway!

#15 gets put to bed after a busy afternoon. Now we look forward to the coming week and the new season. Once again thank you Sharon for your initial post of activity today, we would not have had the video coverage without it as I wasn't expecting any movements until tomorrow.

No problem and it was a lucky accident that I decided to check or I would have missed it. :geek:

With the morning light, the lineup at the engine house is a little clearer. Looks like it's actually #463 out front by the west stall.
