Quiet before the storm

It is peaceful this morning in Chama. All locomotives are cold and resting for next Saturday when the new season begins and things around Chama will be much different.

'Twas the last restful weekend in the yards,
Not a loco is stirring, not even a backhoe.
The reservations are waiting for the first groups to arrive,
While shop and train crews enjoy one last quiet Saturday.
Come near next weekend things suddenly will seem urgent,
As the aroma of coal smoke becomes ever more pungent!
Now our months of anticipation are nearing an end,
For the 2015 Season of the Cumbres and Toltec will be at hand!

Even a dusting of snow to damp any sounds around today. If it does not warm up too much the opening day riders will have some nice snow to look at near the pass.

Love the poem, Larry! Same applies here in Michigan as sister Mudhen #464 starts her runs on Wednesday, for Huckleberry Crossroads Village "Senior Power Day." I'll be on board and probably wear my Chama railroad cap. Then, their excursions start afterwards.

If I recall from last year, I think there are 3 runs: 10:00 a.m. should be about the 1st run. Usually, when I get to the entrance ticket booth, I then get my train ticket before I do anything else! That way a guaranteed ride and lunch can come later at noon....also free.

Sister Mudhen #464 runs on Wednesday, May 20th are: 10:20 a.m. and 12:50 p.m., but (he) said he may have an additional run in the middle.

Well done Larry! I think we are all looking forward to a new season of daily sights and sounds from Chama and maybe a few glimpses of a train at Cumbres. Let's hope for full passenger cars, and a safe and profitable year for the railroad.
