12/03/14 - Smoke from Engine House

Looks like they may have fired up a locomotive this morning. I think we have 488 as the only locomotive still with tender, perhaps we'll see some movement today.

A couple short videos of the emergence of #488 this morning - 2nd video just some whistle talk -- and Jason we need smellivision for the next upgrade, for that nice coal smoke smell!!!!

Jonathan I have no idea, would only expect yard movements for today, but they could do anything if they have a hot locomotive. I'll be tracking the cams all day and will post video of any movements there are.

The Friend's of the Cumbres & Toltec Web-Camera Research & Development Team is busily working on 3D cameras and Smell-o-Vision for future enhancements.

It might take a while... :smiley16:

Some more smoke and popoff steam. Making a lot of noise this morning (well music to the ears noise!).

Maybe a lot of gunk in the bottom from sitting these last few weeks. They seem to be holding a high pressure in the boiler since the pops are going off frequently.

488 pulled up a little ways, bucket loader came out from behind and went out of camera range to the right - worker walked over there as well. Loader came back with what I think are bags of sand, and worker climbed up on the locomotive loading the sand.

15 is now being started up. Sounded like a washing machine for a minute and I had no clue what was going on until I saw the exhaust.

What little I know about diesel engines, I know they run terrible when they are cold. Should sound better after warming up a bit.

Just to wrap up the happenings of the day - #15 was switching some cars in the yard all in order to get one more car for the passenger train that is now at the back of the consist. #488 was brought back inside the shop and smoke is gone, so I assume will be cold again until Friday or so. Nice to have some action today for sure!

Nice coverage Larry! At the end of last video some of that high country snow was falling in the yard. Perhaps a Christmasy look for the holiday train Saturday.
