The guy spraying around the coupler in the third photo is Al Stevenson who is one of the original guys who helped save the CATS in the late 60s and if you go in either depot you will see a bronze plaque with his name and him in the group photo in his Rio Grande Conductors uniform. I was privileged to have him on our team.
Poor Don Bayer, in 3 days we ran just under SIX TONS of sand through Andy's sand blaster cleaning the two narrow frame tankers down to the bare metal and had a 'little' problem with the dust drifting down to his RPO car.
Don said that "if I needed more sand, he has about 50 pounds of it that got in his car". Oops!
