Looks like two ready to go. Anyone know what is up this morning?

They backed down into the south yard. One was 489, could not make out the second one.

I believe its a photo charter and we are about to see something not usually seen, a train with rear helper. 489 is coupling to the caboose. Makes it easier over Lobato trestle, don't have to uncouple the helper.
Pulled from Chama at 9:30.

Day 5 of the Lerro Photo charter: https://www.lerrophotography.com/worksh ... road-2024/

Day 5, October 25 – Two Rio Grande 2-8-2 K36 class locomotives will move a train from Chama to Cumbres Pass. Once at Cumbres Pass, the helper locomotive heads back to Chama. Our photo freight train will continue to Osier and then return to Chama.

Enjoy - Melanie

It was very enjoyable to watch. I didn't know what was going on until I saw Bob's comment but it was interesting. In a way, I felt it was 1880 again, or maybe 1950 and stock were being taken to market. Then remember that those 2 engines will be 100 years old this time next year.
