Remembering those that have made the final station call.

Clyde Putman Has Passed

I don't have any details, but the word is that he passed sometime last week.

I met him a couple of times in Chama and he was a great guy. Very knowledgeable, hard working, and friendly. He was a true asset to the Friends.

All I know is that Clyde died on Monday October 22. Have not found any obituary but he did live in the Dallas Metro area. I had just spoken with him about 3 weeks ago and he indicated that he was coming in 2019 for a couple of work sessions. This is a shock and indeed Clyde will be missed.

My wife and I shared a wonderful breakfast with Clyde at the Boxcar Cafe in 2017. Along with being a master of brake systems and retainers, he was also a librarian at Southern Methodist University. When he discovered that my wife is an ex-librarian (she was wearing a "Books Rule!" t-shirt), the conversation made a hard left turn from railroads to books and libraries. I was looking forward to his return in 2017 and was disappointed by his absence. I am very saddened by his passing.
