Noise?

What is that loud noise I hear from time to time today? I noticed it a couple days ago too. Sounds like a turbo generator or a NASCAR jet dryer.

I believe it's the internal cooling fan inside the camera chassis. The warmer weather may be causing it to activate.

I'll be there Sunday and will take a look.

I wondered if it might be the auto senor on the mic just looking for something to do...... Thanks Jason.

In trying to figure out the source of the noise, I would shut off one camera or the other. At times the noise was with the North camera, at other times the South, but never both. Is there one mic separate, from the cameras, or are there mics in each camera and only one is turned on at any given time? Another possiblity is that with the sand tower close to there, perhaps they were moving sand up to the tower? Somewhere on the C&T website, the page with the Chama yard map, it says that sand is moved up with compressed air, which could sound like that.

Each camera is mic'd separately. So, if the sound was external (esp. being that loud), you'd hear it on both.

Hi Pete, I have worked the air powered sand house unit and it is almost more trouble than it is worth. When one of the Friends crews cleaned the dead rat out of the pipe that was clogging the sand transfer pipe up to the hopper on top we tested the system. The sand currently is in 60# bags and is thrown up to the guy on the engine and hand dumped into the hopper on the boiler. Much faster.

I think Jason is on the right track with the cooling fan. I was watching today and caught the noise starting. The sound ramped up like a motor comeing up to speed.
