The M3U8 issue

This seems to be an old concern that has yet to be answered. I am just recovering from a deceased computer, so I have switched to Windows 14 or 15, the former Windows 10 with all it's new versions. And I am using Firefox Quantum, which worked fine on the old Windows 7 computer. So I am getting the M3U8: Crossdomain access denied message that so many others have posted. Can't just be band width, as I was able to watch the train come in this afternoon on Edge and on Chrome.

Gary. I believe you are correct when saying, "can't just be bandwidth." Last year when the depot cam was shutdown, the Railroad Operating Company was experiencing bandwidth problems. In an effort to assist, Jason shut down one camera by taking out the code that caused it to broadcast. Brown\Rice, which hosts the Friends' cameras, software then sent out the M3U8 notice, but only on the camera rendered inoperative. Since then, the M3U8 notification has appeared because of power failure for a camera(s) or system wide. Brown\Rice acted accordingly.

When you watched the train action on Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome, did you also try and watching it with Firefox? I just opened the most current version of Firefox and show the following:

This graphic is a bit blurred but due mostly from the fires north of Chama and low evening light. You might re-install the Firefox browser to see if that helps. All browsers cache video files to control how they are presented on screen. You just might have the old M3U8 video file hung-up and showing. There are a few programs which will flush the video cache and allow you to start anew.

I am more inclined to believe that you have a browser issue with the Firefox version you are using. You may recall that Friends has been suggesting that viewers use a browser other than Microsoft Internet Explorer. From what I have read, IE moved on to Edge and left Internet Explorer behind since it would not properly process HTML5 files. The following graphic is a screen grab I just made using the old explorer. It has the M3U8 video called out in addition to a crossdomain issue when accessing the Friends' camera website. As best I understand, M3U8 is a file which contains a listing of individual graphic files, which must be used to process the video picture correctly. If the browser cannot open the M3U8 file, then there is no video playing. How are you getting along with the most recent version of Firefox?

I now often use the Opera browser. I particularly like the fact that is is now VPN enabled, which gives substantial protection when visiting the web. I have noticed that it has a difficult time with the VP9 video coding format. Not surprising since VP9 is a Google-Chrome project. Keep the faith and let us know your results.

The most recent issues was caused by a power failure at the depot so the system was off at the source. As I posted in the General area, a new Windows 10 update seems to have, mostly, cleared up the issues I was having with the stream in Edge. I have never had any issues in Chrome other than the freezes which seem to be ISP related since many times only one cam is frozen while the other 2 work.

The cameras are working fine: I just watched 489 come in in Chrome, my Win10 and Firefox are up to date, and yet I am still getting a "crossdomain access denied" message in Firefox. There has to be a reason...

The promotional video at the top of the page still works fine, it's just the 3 actual cameras in Chama that are at crossed swords with my new computer.
