4/26/18 South Cam Update?

Unread postby Bill Grierson » Thu Apr 26, 2018 8:35 am

Just wondering if there are any updates as far as the plans go to restore the South Cam? I remember Jason commenting that it might not be active for opening day. I am glad to have the other two cams and I am not complaining....just curious.

Thanks,
Bill

John Engs will be on-site tomorrow for some triage. With any luck, we'll have it restored tomorrow. If not, we'll start doing what is necessary to get it back.

The extended delay is simply due to the nature of using volunteer labor that is, in my case, 1000 miles away.

John had some time yesterday to take a look at the camera. It's not a quick fix, unfortunately.

He has dismounted it and is shipping it to me. I'll either be able to fix it myself or take it to the manufacturer for repair/replacement. A bit of good news is the manufacturer is here in Houston. :smiley24:

I think you missed the last update.

It can't be fixed on-site and has been shipped to me.

I'll post when I have an update.

The camera arrived in Spring last night and is sitting on my desk. It's on my list of projects for tomorrow. If it's fixable, I'll get it back in the mail to John Monday morning. If it's toast, I'll contact the manufacturer about a replacement Monday.

Thanks Jason and John for doing this. I feel more connected to my membership in the Friends this way, and send extra money to support when I can.

Again, thank you very much for doing this.

My plans for this evening got nixed, so I used the time to take a look at the camera. It turns out that it is just fine and the problem is on the tower, despite our testing last week. John Engs and I now have it narrowed down to only a few components, all of which are easily replaced or bypassed.

I may be near Chama next week for work. If so, I’ll swing by and re-install it and make the necessary repairs. If my trip is cancelled, John will do the work without me some time next week. Either way, it should be back up and running before long.

The latest word is that I'll be in Chama on Saturday, 5/19. If all goes well, the camera will be back up and running that day.
