We were very lucky this morning and got the departure. The cams went down shortly after 216 left Chama.

We are taking 489 today, but 487 still has 484s tender. 487 has a tender by the ash pit, but it must not be serviceable. Ray let me ride the turn yesterday. There's a lot of work to it. Of course I wasn't the one doing the work. The sander is being used because there is a pile of sand under the nozzle. I will get some pics if it isn't raining when we come in. I have seen some yard walkers taking sand samples.
There was the loudest clap of thunder I have ever heard by the Depot at 9 o'clock. It scared everyone, but it didn't do any apparent damage.
Gotta go. Gotta train to ride. I'll be waving from the café car. :tank:

Last year I went down to the Wye and watched the operation, very interesting how they do it so they minimize moving switches.

I caught that clap of thunder on the depot camera this morning, Frank - had to reach for the mute button fast lest the customer I had on the phone wonder what was blowing up.

Bit later and I caught the train just coming out of the tree line on the way upgrade.

Right now the cams are still down and I have to go out this evening so would record the arrival of 215 to process once I got home. If they are not back up by the time I leave, then will not have the arrival.

Cams are back up so, if they don't go down again, we will have the arrival of 215 when I get home.

If the train has stopped, this position would indicate 8 cars.

The eclipse appears to have sucked up much of the sun in Chama, as San Juan Train ##215 arrives at the Chama Depot on a cloudy and overcast day. Hostler and passenger car cleanup crew move in to prepare train for the trip tomorrow to Antonito.

After relocating a passenger car and placing it in storage, Locomotive #488 moves on to empty its' ashes before taking on a bit more water, and then heads to engine house in part 2.

Best viewed in 1080P and full screen. Thanks.

Note: I have made numerous attempts to post Part 2 of Locomotive 488 being prepared to over-night at the engine house. However, only the google-video code shows during a preview. The code does yield a YouTube video when properly entered into the Cliqz browser and the Chrome browser. Your browser should be able to activate that video at the following link:

The video is best viewed full screen at 1080P.

Today is Friday, August 25, 2017. I have edited this post to try once more to have the video open without the viewer having to utilize the link. Success. I am not even going to guess why it posts properly today. Thanks for your patience.
