7/27/2017 Catch a Galloping Goose

Postby Rick Calkins » Wed Jul 26, 2017 11:57 pm

Yesterday, Galloping Goose #5 arrived and was parked temporarily in the north yard. Last year it was spotted on the track alongside the main parking area (If Memory Is Correct). Today should be camera viewers treat as they watch Galloping Goose #5 'position itself to load passengers, and then make its way out of the yard. Full details of this visit found at http://cumbrestoltec.com/galloping_goose_5/

The storage bunker at the sand house is now easily seen at night. My wife feels that it has been lit up until a short time ago, and that they just now put in a new bulb?

Engineer runs braking test shortly after passing the tipple. Not satisfied with the results, workman drops down from cab and makes adjustments. Another test is performed. Again adjustments are made before #216 can continue on to Antonito.

Looking closely, you can see outline of workman between the train and sand house.

Sound capture is good except when there is a minor sync problem. Listen carefully, and you will believe that you can hear the braking problem during initial test.

Please post reply and suggest any corrections to this observation.

The Work Sessions sub-forums are full of information that often describes or shows activity we can't see while watching the cameras. Sharon Evans is hosting the reporting of Work Session E. Her comments and photographs are full of useful information. It is a pleasant coincidence that she is focusing on the sand house. You can follow Sharon and Work Session E at this link: viewtopic.php?f=148&t=4825#p22016

Well no rain today to spoil the activities going on. Sunny with cloudy periods and temperatures upper 70's for the most part. The most interesting thing going on today was the placing of the air tank into the sand house. The Friends have been working most of the summer sessions repairing the sand house getting it ready to provide sand to the locomotives on a daily basis. Next step, which should happen tomorrow is raising the storage tank for the sand onto the tower from which gravity will allow locomotive crews to fill the sand dome. Keep in mind that this air tank weighs around 800 lbs.

Good to hear from you Sharon. At 1553 hours a wasp started hogging the South cam. It danced around for 2 minutes and then climbed partly out of camera range except for its head which still covered the Depot. When the train arrived it disappeared behind the offending insect before it stopped.

Late afternoon rains did not prevent Culmbres & Toltec Train # 215 from arriving at the Chama Depot on schedule. Engine # 397 performed the task of pulling the train up and down the mountain from Antonito, New Mexico.

Caught a brief look at Frank's wasp on south camera. There is a also a ghost train haunting this clip - you'll see it slipping past.

Tom,
Thanks for the correction. Sometimes I think I'm too old to learn the difference between locomotives. But, that would just be an "old" excuse.
