There is a wonderful side--journey you can take to learn the history of the cameras at Chama. There you will find a google view of the yards and the areas covered by the cameras. You will also see scenic views of the Chama Depot taken from the top of the bathrooms. Yep, you are correct. That's where Jason and his crew installed the beloved Depot Camera. Link,

When the Depot Camera is in operation, there is a loud roaring sound heard by viewers. This noise happens when the camera is hot and a turbo-fan kicks-in to cool it down. The problem will be solved by installing an exterior microphone. I was able to review the specs. and requirements of this particular camera manufactured by Axis. The installation of the exterior microphone is their recommendation. I understand that the camera crew has installing the microphone on their "to-do" list.

Train 216 leaves the Depot promptly at 10:0000 A.M., with Engine 487 pulling 7
cars. The many passengers received a bevy of waves from the corps of volunteers
at track-side. The riders responded with smiles and waves of their own. The vestibule
featured a greeting from "The Waver." However, this waver is not Frank "The Waver" Smith.
He is not due to be back in Chama until the 6th of August. Maybe Frank sent
him as a substitute waver.

Sorry folks, the skinny green font happened after I tried to save the post as a draft. You will notice that I attempted to correct the situation by inserting the coding tag color=#000000. Poor result. There is a lot about phpBB Forum coding that is not all that intuitive. My wife insists that I've never been particularly intuitive.

Update. You will notice that the green fonts are gone. The fonts are now black. The secret of changing the color is to remove all coding tags. Apparently the font color is now the default color, which is black.

Roger Hogan gives us a chance to watch a Double-Header consisting of Locomotive # 463 and Locomotive # 488 pulling the train. Turn up your volume and set your viewing quality to 1080p to fully enjoy this fine show.

From watching here in the yard, 489 was originally set to go out as the locomotive this morning, but encountered some issue. 487 made a quick move from the house at 9:30 went over to the coal dock and the train left on time. This was helped by the fact 487 had already gone to the tank and pit. Right now 489 is in the west stall of the house.

Thank you Rick for all of the good news, especially about the Depot camera. 3 years ago when I became a Chama webcam adictee, I wondered why everyone was coming toward the cams when the train stopped. I thought maybe the busses were parked there. It made sense when I Googled the parking lot and lo and behold there were the restrooms.
The waver from the Parlor Car Vestibule gave a fantastic wave as you pointed out. I would be proud to take the credit, but I would like to find out who it was too. If he is a member I encourage him to let us know.

I would like to let Frank know how much I enjoyed his 'waving' and would like to welcome him to the group. Thanks Rick for filling in for Sharon. While we are discussing the cameras on this post I would like to see if anyone else has noticed the whistle echo I have been getting all season. I am not complaining because you can't get enough whistling just had never noticed it before this operating season.

Thank you Bill. I have actually been a member for 2 years now, but I just learned from Tim this year how to get on the forum. If you have the cameras up side by side, you will notice they are usually 3 to sometimes up to 10 seconds unco-ordinated. The echo is the 2 cameras picking the sound up simultaneously.

I had noticed that you just began posting after your return from Chama so welcome to posting instead. I do have the cameras side by side but don't recall the delay being quite as noticeable as it seems this year. Looking forward to watching for your 'wave' on your next trip in August. It got to be quite the thing to try and guess from where on the train you would be. Other than the cab I think you pretty much covered it.
