12-19-16 Smoke this morning

Unread postby Larry Sullivan » Mon Dec 19, 2016 5:40 am

Looks like 489 is still hot today, so perhaps we haven't seen the last steam of the year! For those that missed the activity of the weekend I'll put together some video either today or tomorrow, so will post something soon!

I guess there's some tidying-up to do - cars to be repositioned ..

At some point do they not have to clean out the firebox and all of that? I do not remember seeing that on posts yesterday. I think last year they put the Christmas train on the station track north of the depot - but maybe that was the year before? Anyway, will be fun to watch whatever.

Will the coaches be moved into the parking lot area so to be seen from the street during the winter this year?

After half an hour at the ash-pit, #489 returns to the west stall. The absence of smoke from the roof stack suggests that the fire has been dropped ...

If that's the end, it's a bit disappointing ...

Nice to see 489 out this morning, but 15 could have split the coaches.

If you look at the car left down by the depot, it appears athe 5th window from the left has been left half-way open.

It was below zero early on - it it tough starting diesels in cold weather - perhaps that may have had something to do with it. I am just guessing here.

Correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like the plow cuts up at Cumbres are the deepest since the cameras were installed. Spring opening may get interesting if the pack builds from here.

You are correct. It may be bulldozers and loaders taken out on work train to move the snow off the row to get the line open by Memorial Day weekend. Also the flangers may get used for real.

Don't get to excited yet, depends on how the rest of the winter goes.
