This early, may be work train duty or yard switching to break down the train and move cars.

484 comes by the tipple so to clear the switch, that conductor does not look comfortable.

Don't know what is going to happen now, but I have to pull the plug on my coverage since have to go to an appointment. Hopefully someone will continue to post the activities and we will get Larry S.'s video later.

After a LOT of activity and interest in the area between the third flat and the caboose, #484 finally took it's consist north at 10:31

Well 489 just its usual daily service with fire blown down and water, so it does not look like they are ready to shut things down yet. Could be with the nice weather they are planning to continue maintenance out on the line.

Sharon, I just missed getting a capture of #489 approaching the ash pit. Smoke everywhere - the crews must choke sometimes. Are you watching for #484's return ? Sadly, I can't.

I have the stream on as I process my photographs from this weekends New River Train so I will hear it.

Darn, almost missed it.

Now we know why the caboose was included, no place to wye the train.

484 stopped just inside the west stall then shoved through so would guess that 463 is the first locomotive to go down for the winter since it was in that stall.

Something is going on over by the house, but we cannot see a thing on the south side other than smoke. I am hearing hammering now, maybe a tender is getting unhooked.

We now have smoke coming from the jack on the west stall so 484 probably is in there now after shoving 463 out the south side.

Anybody know where they picked up the old ties, how they loaded them, or where they uncoupled the flats with the old ties? That looked like a lot ties.

As to where they uncoupled the train, the bypass track around south yard. Where they picked them up, well guessing since they did not wye the train, somewhere on this side of the pass.

Here's some video wrap of the day -

First is the work train setting up and departing the yard, I only had South cam for the departure as North had frozen on me.

Next the very smoky 489 comes to the ash pit, and the work train returns with a load of used ties.

Finally some late day deer grazing around the sand box. They ended up wandering off around the wood shop, I saw them at the coal dock then back to the sand box - in the area for nearly an hour - enjoying the quiet yard.
