It's the last one-week work session of the 2012 season - although Ed Lowrance and John Engs do plan to offer some shorter work opportunities after the regular season ends. We have 59 volunteers - and ten of them are in Antonito, working on the frameless tank car restoration (UTLX's 11036 and 11037) and rebuilding gondola 783. In Chama, work continues this week in repairing the fence for the Chama stock pen; repair of boxcar #3669; Derrick OP restoration; restoration of the coal tipple; RPO 54 restoration; and yard landscaping. Don Stewart's paint crew is also back in action, working on freight cars and rolling stock. One volunteer is staffing the Cumbres Mall exhibit. Other support activities include registration, food preparation, tool car operation, nail and bolt car operation, paint and painting supplies, carpentry shop operations, reporting and documentation and chronicling.
Registration yesterday (Sunday) had to be done inside the Chama Depot - the storm clouds, and some thunderstorms, were the welcoming weather for the volunteers!
