Looks like good progress on the new pavilion at Cumbres Pass.

It would be great if the plans call for the finished building to weather and blend in with the snow shed.
Any ideas on that Roger?

Hey Rich,

Given the conditions up there, it won't take too long to look weathered.

Hey Rich,

Given the conditions up there, it won't take too long to look weathered.

After a couple of winters and other weather it will look fine is my guess.

Weathering by the elements would be great but that pre-supposes that no covering finish (for instance, paint) will be applied. I hope that is the plan.
Wouldn't it have been really cool if the building had been designed to represent the old covered turn table? Oh well

I can not imagine they are going to leave it raw wood.

I would hope not! I would love to see the use of a preservative or stain that would leave the character of the wood. But, whatever, the pavilion will serve a useful purpose.

OK, who's the expert on roof angles and snow loading. I'm a bit surprised that a roof of that pitch will work in a mega-snow zone like Cumbres.

Is the roof going to be (gasp) sheet metal???

Sorry Greg, it is brown sheet metal roof and they finished it today. They are putting siding on it going up half way, a fireplace at the far end, and an enclosed work area for Steve Flowers and his crew on the snowshed side. The structure isn't very visable from the railroad, but you can sure see it from the highway.

Well John please fix the snowshed really really good. If the snowshed falls down again, that high-tech 21st century metal roof will be fully exposed!

Well Greg, we found another 8x12 that needs replacing so you can come and help us next summer. It only weighs about 800 lbs, is 18' long, and we haul it up over 20' in the air. Nothing to it!.....
