Work is continuing at Cumbres. Today Bob, Geoff and George were up at Cumbres. Here are few pics.

The section house look so nice

The cover for the cistern needs replacing and a new one is being built.

Geof and George are working on the cistern lid and trim boards

Bob is installing a camouflaged chicken wire system. It's to prevent birds from pooping on the new siding.

With funds for materials, after the section house, the car inspector house will be redone inside and out. Then possibly rebuilding the bunk house and the Cumbres Depot.

Here's something I learned today . The cistern at Cumbres is fed via a spring a mile or so away. It's brought to the cistern via a pipe. Right now there appears to be 10-20 gallons per minute of overflow.

There was a group up at Cumbres recently. Two gentlemen in their 70 ' sor 80 ' s lived in the section house as kids. It would be very good to get an oral history from these two guys.

Anybody get their contact details?

Somebody also mentioned whilst we were working on the section house that there were a couple of people down in Chama with memories of growing up in the section house and car inspector's houses. Perhaps they could be persuaded to come up to Cumbres and do a videotaped walk-through. Maybe this could get a project number and be part of next year's tasks? These folks are not getting any younger and it would be a shame to lose their first-hand memories.

I'll "2nd the Motion" on that project! Excellent idea! Something all of us could read/view with the Winter months approaching. Like to see it happen this Fall, if possible. I'm in that age bracket, too, but at least I have all those newspaper stories on me (15), to look back and share with all. Enjoy the day, My Friends!

I love that idea, Ian. Really wish I could help make that happen. If we get information and they happen to live anywhere near southeast Texas, I'll drive over and do a video interview (assuming they're willing).

Ian, I agree. We need to get an oral history on video with these two gentlemen. If I remember correctly, Bob Conry has a contact phone numbers.

I'll be up for taking the video. I know a really awesome video editor in Spring, TX We need an interviewer...

Rich Muth would be my choice for his knowledge of the railroad and the terrain. And he can talk well, I always learn many things new when he is our docent on the train.
