08-08-15 Promises to be a Busy Day!

Unread postby Larry Gibson » Sat Aug 08, 2015 7:47 am

Looks like Saturday will be a busy day on the RR. Doubleheader readies for 216. Hopefully for the riders the low clouds and showers will move out. 487 is fueled while 463 fetches an extra coach for today's train 216. Riders begin the gather on the platform as off in the distance a crack of blue sky starts to appear. 45 minutes before departure the 216's power is set and waiting for the Highball. Smoke fills the air in a classic Chama moment! 4 hot locos in the yard....Please check back later today for Larry's video updates.

Under breaking skies the 216 departs at 10:05. 487 and 463 whistle as the pass by the tipple pulling a nine car train.

I don't see it mentioned in here but did anyone notice that Rotary OY was moved today? Now in full view of the Depot cam.

Dinner Trains heads out at 5:05 for an evening out with the music of Ed Stabler! I'm sure they will enjoy the concert.

They have been getting back to Chama right at 11PM, so guessing that would mean around 10PM at Cumbres?

Another very busy day on the railroad - sorry for the late posting of the videos, took a while to edit things tonight.

08-08-15 Train 216 Departure - Doubleheader today with 487 as helper, and 463 as the road locomotive. Good to see 487 back to work!

08-08-15 Chama Parade - with the annual Chama days celebration comes a parade. Here's a few minutes of it, total time of parade was about 1/2 hour. Looks like a fair crowd watching on the street.

08-08-15 Rotary OY was moved a bit today, looks like they wanted to get to the cars in front of it, but nice to see the rotary in full view now of the depot cam.
Note: The sound on this video is from the tipple cams, and not totally synced up - thought it was better than silence.

08-08-15 487 at ash pit, looks like a lot of muscle was needed from several folks to get the ash out today. Finally looks like they succeeded. Nothing easy or lazy about this railroad, fantastic work from the crew guys.

Well I checked at 2030 local time in Chama and the train is back so maybe they leave at 1915 or so.

Sharon I have to apologize - I was thinking in Eastern time - my time zone, as I start work at 11 and the train is often just in when I get a chance to look in. Sorry for the confusion, I should have been thinking in local Mountain time! They did seem a bit earlier than usual tonight.

484 spent a relative long time on the ash pit before going down to the tank to take water. Judging by the time spent at the tank it was more for washing than filling; Very brief.

Wonder if they were having a mechanical issue at the ash pit? See above post for answer:)

This is a bit of an experiment, I'll put some properly edited video here in the morning - but here's tonight's dinner train return, dual cam - just trying it out to see if it works. Comments welcome, good or bad.

I noticed this morning that you were able to do a split screen video of the dinner train coming in. Neat with the loco at the ashpit. A good way to change the format from time to time. Good idea.
