C&TS Info Booth at Huckleberry RR RailFan Day

Unread postby Larry Gibson » Sat Aug 01, 2015 9:02 am

Farol and I are here representing the Friends of the C&TS RR. The smell of narrow gauge steam and smoke from Mudhen 464 fills the air. Rode in coach 320 which was a veteran of the Chili Line earlier. More photos later this evening. Larry

That's great. I hope some all of the visitors then will come on out to the C&TS.

That's very cool.....and great photos!

The only thing better than being able to see one Mudhen is being able to see her sister.

I hope your work causes more double headers on the C&TS.

Rich and Jason..........Had a terrific time today! Tim Tennant did it again and provided several items as you can see by the photos! Totally surprised me, and we're very proud to be members. I can speak for myself, but I talked from 10 am to 7 pm, as I stayed afterwards for the back shop cookout. Yes, we had many visitors at the vendor table, and I am also proud to have Larry Gibson assist me this time around. And, yes, I also wore my "Roundhouse" bib overalls that I purchased in your Narrow Gauge Shop many years ago.

I worked at the narrow gauge convention over a year ago and the Queen Mary show for Brooks Wilson several years before that, and it is sure FUN to tell others about our railroad and the Friends. Loved it!

This year the HRR ran the Railfan photo extra as the early train at 10:00 AM with two run-bys. First was at the longest trestle on the RR. They did four crosses. Interesting the only blowdown valve on 464 is on the fireman's side. The second run-by was at the eastern reverse loop. Later in the day I caught it at 3 other locations in the park around working the information table with Farol.

I think we had a successful day of promoting the RR to many members of the general public who were browsing the model RR displays inside the village meeting/dinner hall throughout the day.

It was a great time going and very satisfying helping promote the C&TS. We used pictures and videos I have taken to help them visualize the mountains and territory the RR runs through. Also mentioned the live cams and web site of the Friends. Used cell phone to go live to the Chama Yard to demonstrate.

Do to the fact of keeping the table manned throughout the day we did not take the shop tour this year. Stayed at the table while Farol rode the last train of the day. We both had a great time.

This is the old teacher in me here: The files are open for downloading and are without watermarks etc. Feel free to use/enjoy them as you wish. It's still fun getting information for "students" to learn.

Hope you enjoy them as much as I did taking them!!! A very satisfying day for two Friends of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic RR here in Michigan.

Larry

Call your attention to coach 320, it's a former D&RGW coach that ran on the Chili Line and used here. Thought that was another interesting connection between the C&TS and Huck. Huck also has a RGS coach in this train set.

Great photos, thanks for sharing them. It sure looks like the Huckleberry R/R takes good care of their equipment. It is in good hands.

Thanks for posting Farol! Glad you were able to have another fun day out at the Huck. I see you have those PM 1225 gauntlet gloves on too.

Ah, Larry Gibson, let's not forget those 44 year old trail "engineer" boots as I call them. They have been in many part of the US, including Chama. Durango, Silverton, Grand Canyon, Verde Canyon, Yellowstone, and umpteen railroad yards with COHS conferences. No wonder I look like I'm all "steamed out." What's next? "Train Robbery" event on the 22nd in Owosso.
