A new way to view The Dispatch?

Unread postby Chris James » Fri Jan 13, 2017 11:54 am

This is a test of a new viewing platform for the Dispatch. The complete issue should download fairly quickly. Click on the link below to access it. Currently it's on my publication server, but that will change if we adopt this format. The content here is the Winter 2016 issue.

This would not open on my system. I have a Mac and use safari on a verizon=yahoo connection.
Have others reported any issues?

Hmmm...interesting. I'm also on a Mac (and this was built on a Mac, though it shouldn't matter as the output is pure - I think - html, which should work on any platform). If it doesn't work, I'll yank it. For research sake, can you try a different browser. I'm using Safari/Mac and it works OK. Also tried it on Firefox/Mac and it also worked. So I'm not sure what is the issue here.

Ah, the relentless march of technology.

It is also Flash-based (as is most of the internet these days). Try updating your Flash app https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and see if that makes a difference.

It may be that something that is rooted in Flash (as is this app) may not be appropriate for folks who like steam locomotive (totally analog...). If that's the case, I'll scrap the idea.

Thanks for the input. Keep me posted.

I don't like it! the size is to small to read so I need to blow it up and then it is to hard to follow as I need to scroll around. Why paper is better!

Paper is definitely better (for most of us) and there is no plan to replace the paper version with a digital version. I'm just experimenting and you guys are the lab rats.

You can make it larger without any scrolling if you click on the "Full Screen" icon in the upper right corner. That makes it, at least for my monitor, larger than the downloaded .pdf version and both pages fill the monitor screen. The "+" and the magnifying glass would work well for someone with failing eyesight who needed the "large print edition."

No, this is not for everyone and it's still experimental. The original .pdf downloads will continue as well.

Thanks!

The Newsletter loaded fine for me on my desktop PC with Windows 7 Premium. Quality of print and photos is pretty good, but at enlarged print, is still too small. I still would want the print version, but this online version has merit. Thanks for posting it.
