To meet new FRA requirements, all freight rolling stock must have their brakes tested annually. That is the brake cylinder piston from caboose 0579. You have to disassemble, clean & lube it as part of a COTS (C = CLEAN, O = OIL, T = TEST, S = STENCIL) inspection.
