My dad called those eyes "devil eyes" and preached that you never turn you back on a horse with those eyes.

We called that a "watch eye" for about the same reason, supposedly you had to watch out for horses that had them.
We had an appaloosa mare with one and contrary to the myth, she was one of the best horses we ever had.
