Another Addition to the Camera Page

Unread postby Jason Rose » Sat Jan 10, 2015 11:45 am

On a suggestion from Rich Muth, I added the La Manga Pass CDOT cameras and the Chili Line Cameras. It's pretty unlikely that you'll ever see a train on these cameras, but it should be interesting to see the different weather conditions around our favorite railroad.

Once again, special thanks to Rich Murray for creating the "stations signs" for the page.

I'm running out of ideas for things to add to the page. If you have any brilliant ideas, please let me know.

What a great idea to add the other cdot cams of the area!
It is really nice to see what it is like in the surrounding area.

Yes, thanks for the new additions to the website. I really appreciate your work to make it all possible. I depend on it for my daily C&TS fix!

Thanks Jason, the page looks great! Nice to see all the views of the area -- hopefully we'll catch some train shots at Cumbres once the season returns!

Happy to be of services, gents.

Over the past few days, I noticed snow and fog at Cumbres while La Manga was sunny. That's pretty wild, they're only 7 miles apart.

Yesterday while I was looking at the CDOT views I noticed that my cursor which had come to rest on the sign was giving me the finger. (indicating a link) Naturally I clicked. Then I clicked all of the signs.
Ladies and Gents, Jason has added another feature (or I just never knew about this) clicking on the sign will take you to its location on Google maps.

HAHA!

That feature has been there since I included the first few CDOT cams. Not sure I told anyone about it, though. Guess it was sort of an "Easter egg."

Thank you for all the great camera stuff. Only thing is I think there is one to many 'N's in Elevation on the Chili Line Sign. BTW the term grade has a different meaning in those Chili Line cameras! Russ

D'OH!

Thanks, Russ. I'm sure Mr. Murray will fix that sign and send me a replacement at some point.

Yeah, it's pretty flat out there on 285 between Antonito and Tres Piedras. But, the "grade" is clearly visible most of the way, despite being abandoned for nearly three quarters of a century. Change comes slowly in the high desert.

Don't know, it's too cold out there for painting. Might have to wait 'til spring.

Won't have to wait for spring. The MoW crew just ran through there with some paint and fixed it on their way to Fosters for some liquid heat.

What page was that, Tom?

There is an AccuWeather app on the camera page. It's pulling data from Dulce, not Chama, but it's got to be pretty close.

There's been talk of putting a Friend's-managed weather station in Chama. But, it's a ways off right now.

Works fine here.

They do occasionally drop out. Putting cameras in mountain wilderness will not be without glitches.
