I know we usually talk about what we see going on around the yard. But, all afternoon I keep hearing a whistle blowing. It does not appear to be coming for the hot engine spotted in front of the engine house. Anybody know where it is coming from?

Joe K is on the ground and has reported there is a locomotive east of town. No idea what they're doing.

There are other Friends in town today. I imagine someone will chime in eventually with what all the hubbub is.

At times, it sounds as though the whistle changes.

Thanks Jason would be good to know, I heard it much earlier today as well, so if the whistle blowing is still going on that's quite a mystery!

Still happening and has been for hours. Pretty frequently.

Sure sounds like someone is having a bit of fun. Maybe trying out some personal whistles?

"It seems that Ken Matzik, former GM at C&TS, has a collection over 80 locomotive whistles.
According to Alan, some model shop in Denver hired him to collect sounds from all of them. so they took 489 up to Ed's place this morning, , and they've been changing whistles and blowing various patterns all day.
I hope Lorraine is out of town...

Now u know, plus more tomorrow.

I was hearing all the whistling this AM as I loaded my car to head for home. 489 was at Ed's house with a rider gon and a caboose. Ed came over when Roger and I crashed the party. Comments reported elsewhere were essentially what Ed told us. There were some nice sounding whistles. Sorry, no photos.

edit - Just heard that the thread referenced earlier has been deleted. That information had some errors anyway. Ed did ask us to not post photos or video.

No rule for or against, Tom. Normally I would prefer you source your re-post. I always give credit to material that isn't mine. It's the right thing to do.

In this case, though, I was told that person removed their post under direction of the railroad staff. So, I pruned your post in an effort to keep feathers from being ruffled.

I didn't remove the entire post because that seemed senseless with the info already posted long before I saw it. Plus it was posted on the NGDF which is more heavily read than this forum. No use trying to contain info that was already out there.

Frankly, I wasn't sure how to handle the issue and did what I thought was right. No offense intended to anyone.
