Three comments then a question. First another great video, second I love the Cresco shot, and lastly this video really shows off the great job the ballast folks have been doing, looks terrific!
Now for the question approx when were cattle guards first used on the CTSRR?

I can't answer the question about the cattle guards. But, it seems like they would've had to have been there before the C&T. Hasn't there always been free-range cattle up there?

I have a 22" LCD monitor, and I put the video in full screen mode. I enjoyed it very much. However, the video is defective. The smoke was blowing right in my face, however, I could not smell the coal!

Greg, I tried to make a coal scented candle once. Think "aroma therapy" for railfans. It didn't work like I wanted it to, but at least the house is still standing.
I have a lump of coal that I occasionally burn a corner off of for the smell.
It's low-tech, but effective.

I herd that the cattle guards all got laid off. Any truth to this?
