October 22nd - More action in the yard

489 coaling and getting ready for some more work, looks like still two other hot locos, so assuming 487 and 488.

Actually there are 3 hot engines as two are on the left. The one in front is hiding the other, I caught it blowing off and yelled at the wife 3 hot in Chama. She could care less!

You are correct Tom -- 488 now down taking on water. 487, I assume, still in front of the engine house. Will try and get some video today as well, and am uploading some video - though not much from yesterday.

488 hooking up to the flat cars after getting a load of coal, workers taking off the ties, and then 488 pulled the cars up a bit, perhaps better position to unload.

488 moving the flats back and forth a bit, so the forklift can get a last load on a car. Looks like 3 empty flats now, one to go.

489 down by the wye, 487 still sitting in front of the engine house.

Thanks Larry for watching and posting. Had to put the iPad down this morning and do things off RR.

Looks like another busy day. Apparently the hospital train will leave for Antonito on Thursday so today and tomorrow will be busy. Perhaps some major yard work coming too with all the track supplies if the snow holds off.

Here is a capture of when I was able to "peep" back in! :geek:

Well Larry you did a heck of a job yesterday, so I figured I'd try to help out today. I'm supposed to be doing work around the house -- but yeah it can wait!

Agree with you totally...put off today to watch the wind down. Tomorrow you will have to carry the ball as I will be tied up. I'm sure those who miss it live will enjoy these updates.

Won't be long until the snow flies. Made this photo of "my tracks" in the yard last Dec 23. ;-) That''s my shadow with this iPad I'm watching with now in the snow.

Enjoy the activities while they last!!!

As I'm sitting here in 86 degree weather, that snow shot is really calling! (Though nice cool front coming through tonight).

FYI - your shot is flipped sideways, but looks fantastic.

I've got to be out a couple hours in the morning tomorrow, but will be here much of the day -- will gladly post what I can throughout the day!

Took much of the morning, but now the final bundle of ties now removed, should see some movement soon I would think.

Something about iPad pics and PC threads don't mix...tried again. They look ok when you post so never know.

Cam is working for me.

Yes, Pile Driver is in the swamp. Looks like they're cleaning up the yard a bit. Maybe for some winter maintenance? They'd have to hurry before the white stuff comes.

Moving several cars around the yard now.

Ok - Im about done for a while here, been fun today. Will see what I can do tomorrow. I'll get some vids of the pile driver and tender moves put up later, but time to get some real life stuff done for a bit.

Hope all enjoy the posts of the day!

Wow guys this is awesome. Will there be any special runs? I saw a video of the train running in the snow a while ago.
Also, you refer to the swamp and I assume that is to the east of the engine house. How many tracks are there?
Thanks for all the pictures and video Larry. I can't take me eyes off this site.

It looks more like the derrick.
Any idea why they are puting it in the swamp?

Also, you refer to the swamp and I assume that is to the east of the engine house. How many tracks are there?
Thanks for all the pictures and video Larry. I can't take me eyes off this site.

The "Swamp" is the old sheep dipping tracks east of the engine house. It's close to the river and I suppose that's where the monicker comes from.

Video of the Derrick move - I missed the bit going down into the swamp, that's when the camera died on me for a few.

Larry,
Thanks for the close up of the Derrick.
The Pile Driver has a vertical rectangular frame attached to a swivel base that allows it to swing side to side and to angle as well.
The hammer rides within the rectangular frame to drive the piles into the ground.
The vertical frame can be lowered so it can be transported.
Come to think of it, isn't the pile driver up in Antonito?

Thanks - I edited my post to correct it to Derrick. Also added in the 2nd video of the 497 tender move.

That's it for me today - another day tomorrow, I won't be around for early morning movements, but will later on around noon my time here.

One last view as a loco skirts back from the wye to the engine house late in the day.

Post Season Day 2 continues some interesting moves in the yard.

Get some good captures tomorrow as I'm tied up and won't be watching live.

The MOW that was moved was the derrick car and not the pile driver. I know this since I have been helping with that project for the last three years. Does anyone know if it will remain in the swamp for the winter and if so will it be placed back to where it came from?

Thanks for the correction. Sorry for the bogus info.

I'll go study more so I can tell a Pile Driver from a Derrick.
