8-8-21 engine swap

487 is now at the coal dock as it gets ready to take today's train east. 487 went out of Chama with the train yesterday so they have to be doing the locomotive swap at Osier. Would think its because 489 is powering the train out of Antonito and its main service facilities, including oil are at Antonito. They did do that one run into Chama with it to test it on the hill with load. Would think that they had an oil tanker come into refuel it.

Jack, the test run went very well, but it will probably be over the winter break before we see an oil fueling facility put in Chama. Its nothing fancy in Antonito, just a tank car on a siding with a air powered pump on the ground beside it. They fill this from periodic visits of tank trucks. They are burning recycled oil from various sources which is mixed together before delivery.
