489 and 488 are out getting ready to take 216 east from Chama,.

Well, turns out a false alarm for a double header as 488 is coupled to the 8 coach train and 489 is outside the house with most likely the ballast hoppers.
Just a guy who loves steam.

At about 1:00, #489 left town with five drop-bottom gondolas loaded with cinders from the ash pit.

Thanks much for that info, Ed! It's so great that we have a real operating railroad; the ash pit fills up and we take it out in working, vintage rolling stock behind a beautiful steam locomotive and (presumably) deposit it somewhere useful along the right of way. Nice!
