Feeling sorry for the steam engine

Hi,

I was watching on the weekend, when the blizzards and snow was falling and I was wondering why the steam engine on the left hand side, is being left outside in the inclement weather, it seems such a shame, after all the hard work that go's into preserving these wonderful machines. Is there no room in the engine shed behind?

Hurrah, at last, steam locomotive moved into shed. Shame it had'nt been done earlier, when I posted this in November, it would be have been a lot easier.
But it is out of the inclement weather now, which it deserves and for all the people that preserve it and keep it running.
Still enjoying the webcams, still check them everyday.

David, The bay the engine was moved into had been occupied until recently. There are doors on each end of the engine facility with the ones on the opposite (south) end from the camera view leading to a wash area then to the yard. I'm sure there is now an engine occupying that area.

Hi Rich,

Many thanks for taking the time out to explain to me the layout of the shed etc.
I still would have preferred if they had at least covered the loco with a tarpaulin, whilst it was outside, just thinking of the cost of trying to replace one of these loco's. As it's unreplaceable!

Winter weather
What do they do to keep the water in the engine from freezing? Must be quite a job to drain all the lines that carry water to different parts of the engine, then recharge the system for use again.

Water lines are made to disconnect and drain. If a train got stranded, it could be done out on the line to keep the pipes from spliting. Steam lines were harder as they all couldn't be drained of condensation. Luckily, that amount of water was small and not break much or so it was hoped.
