More from Tuesday, 9/26

It was still "Beat the Clock" with rain in the forecast so everyone was busy:

First thing Tuesday morning, #488 moved Flat Car #6601 to the CRF for some final work before the Friends turn it over to the railroad...

...but they didn't quite spot it on the new concrete pad so Greg and crew had to move it "manually." It's a lot easier to move with a locomotive.

A zillion nuts underneath the flat had to be double-nutted...

...and bent stake pockets removed for replacement.

Disassembly of #5774 continued with rusted bolts and bent nails

caboose_touchup.jpg
The primer was dry on 0306 so the joints could be touched up and the grab irons painted "Safety White."

And Patti could apply the final lettering.

more_riviting.jpg
Over at the C&TS shop, Stathi Pappas and crew continued the riveting of the new "scratch built" tender for D&RG # 168. About 2,500 rivets in all. Thank god for ear protection!

rivit_inside.jpg
Red hot rivets are placed inside and Stathi attacks them with the rivet gun on the outside.

tank_brakewheel1.jpg
Chris and Randy work on a brake wheel assembly for Tank Car #11050

siding_tue.jpg
Lean-to siding is almost complete! And rain is on the horizon!

lava_pipe.jpg
New pipe was installed at Lava Pump House

But John's pump was having trouble priming...

...so the pump's output was minimal and no tests could be made with the new pipe. Yet. Stay tuned!

OK, so someone is a Lackawanna fan.

Thanks for the photos Chris, I was having problems getting my pump to draw water because the river water was much lower than before. Hopefully today the rain will stop and we will give it another try as my smaller Hale pump can be used at water's edge.
