7/29/2017 Saturday Bright Skies

Unread postby Rick Calkins » Sat Jul 29, 2017 10:02 am

With two piercing blasts from its whistle, Locomotive #489 steams away from the Chama Depot. After passing the tipple, the brake test is successful, as indicated by two blasts of the whistle. Eight cars enter the grove of trees at the north end of the yard. Train 216 then passes the campground and crosses over the steel bridge, after giving another blast of its whistle. The Chama Toltec railway adventure is underway.

I like your description of the video, Rick. even car H seemed pretty full. I would guess 150 to 170 riders today. Probably more yesterday with a 9 car train both ways. Don't forget Sharon is riding the parlor car tomorrow and she promised us a wave.

Thanks for the reminder that Sharon will be aboard Train # 216 tomorrow, and waving from the platform of the last car. That will gives us a legitimate reason for sitting in the basement wearing our pajamas, while waving at the computer monitor. If anybody asks.

Locomotive #463 rolls down from Cumbres with Train #215, which consisted of 8 cars including a gondola for outside passengers. The first clue that a locomotive has entered the yard is a speck of light peering from the grove of trees to the north. That was not the case today. Train #215 arrived at the north yard without a light or whistle to announce its presence. It was not until she stopped in front of the Chama Depot did we barely hear two blasts of her whistle. None of this seemed to stop the work on the sand house just beneath the cameras. Hammers were beat like a slow pounding drum, when the whistle stopped blowing.

Did you notice the Goose down by the shops where 215 stopped Rick. I will have to tune early in the morning and watch her leave the Chama yard at 8:30am. I like the ghost trains @ the camera changeover.

You have good eyes Frank. I missed the Galloping Goose altogether. I'll try to catch up to you at 8:30 in the morning.
