Chama oil facility signage -- request

Unread postby Paul Davenport » Sun Nov 20, 2016 11:30 am

The Friends signs crew has been asked to recreate historic signage that used to be on the Chama oil-loading facility, and we would like to see historical photos of the facility's north end. This project follows up on work by John Cole's crew to rehab the facility's structure and fittings.
We have a 1938 photo (which I can't seem to attach to this post) from the Friends' Dorman Collection. It shows the faciilty's north end, including two signs, with the tank and tipple in the background, but it'd be helpful to see other photos, particularly any color shots and-or any with straight-forward or closer views of the signs.
We already have multiple recent and old photos of the south end's signage, which includes a sign that appears to be similar or identical to one of those formerly on the north end.
Our interest includes published photos of the north end's signage, so if you know of any books or other publications with relevant photos, please let us know. You can post a reply here or PM me on this board.
Thanks.

Hi. The Friends sign crew was provided a couple of photos in response to our query last fall but we're still researching the Chama oil loading facility’s historical signage in preparation for work this summer and we’re hoping somebody can help us advance our research.

In question are two metal safety signs, one at each end, that have this wording:

DANGER
NO SMOKING
KEEP LIGHTS
AND FIRE AWAY

We have photos from as long ago as the 1930s and as recently as the 1960s that show the signs with a dark (variously appearing to be black, gray or gray-blue) background and white lettering.
We have more recent photos showing the signs with a silver background and dark lettering as long ago as 2006.
What we’re trying to narrow down is when between the late 1960s and mid-2000s the paint scheme changed from dark background/white lettering to silver background/dark lettering. Anybody have any photos showing the signs since the late 1960s and before 2006?
