More photos - it was a busy day for volunteers!

This photo shows the inside of the new tool car, remodeled by Team Leader Craig McMullen and his team!

The various truss rods for Gondola #783 were worn in various places. In the worn spots, they were built back up by welding the spots and then grinding them back to original size.

Cribbing is being used to raise what is left of #783's frame. Team Leader Bill Pratt is looking to see how much higher Randy Parks needs to jack the frame in order to roll the wheel set back into place. Bill has rebuilt a number of gondolas as a Friends' member, being a team leader for many years. He said this is the farthest the Friends have ever taken a car down before starting the rebuild!

Team Leader Nancy Norcross appreciates the help from Pole Barn Team Leader Jim Florey as he slices tomatoes for lunch!

Because the top of the end is badly rusted - as marked by the black line - it will be cut, and a new piece of angle iron will be welded in its place.

Two of four gate posts that were set today by Team Leader Len Jones, Bob Hewitt and Chuck Dueker. The posts were set in concrete, inside concrete sonotubes. The holes will be backfilled after the concrete hardens.

All of those truss rods look like spaghetti don't they? Superheater tube makes excellent sleeve material when they are butt welded as it is schedule 80 pipe, very strong, and hardly shows.

Wow - I am famous. Just for the record, I said that "this is the furthest the Friends have ever taken a Drop Bottom Gon down before the rebuild", and not the furthest they have taken a car down before rebuild. Don't want to steal credit from others that have stripped a car down completely.
