Here are a few photos of opening day for the C&TSRR in Chama, and also some that didn't make it in the earlier posts! The weather is gorgeous for the first day of the season - and 488 left the Chama depot right on time, just after the opening ceremonies!

Three co-workers and I were able to take a few minutes off from work to watch the departure this morning. The four of us were standing in our server room surrounded by large cabinets full of servers and loads of modern technology... huddled over a laptop and watching a 1925 Baldwin pull a train out of Chama Yard. It was a bit surreal.

Even more surreal was the fact that the other guys don't know, or care, much about railroads. Yet, they were unable to take their eyes off the monitor as 488 rolled by. We could even hear her whistle over the roar of the chillers and cooling fans.

John Engs reports that they are 3/4th done with the roof purlins, and it will only take another couple of days to finish up. The the Square Nail Gang will be here C&D to start attaching the roof. He says that up to 18 cars, (depending on their length) will have a roof over their heads in the winter. Pretty exciting!
