Smoking behind the engine house

As of shortly after 7:00 this morning, steam and smoke can be seen billowing behind the east side of the engine house. Might this be #489? Would be nice if they would remember to do this sort of thing in the FRONT yard!

Not sure either Ed, but I think it is safe to say it is a steam engine. Summer is getting closer. :-)

Yesterday (or maybe the day before) it looked as though there was someone on the roof of the engine house removing covers from the ventilation stacks. The way it looks at 8 AM is that the smoke is rising from those -- though I could be wrong. I figure the house must have exhaust hoods as I've seen elsewhere.

More tourists are beginning to stop by. Like swallows, a sign of spring, I guess.

be well,

i see some nice black smoke rising over the rear of the engine house. Maybe they will decide to bring the engine over to the other side so we can atleast watch them get the engines ready

Guess I shouldn't "assume" anything. Peeked back at about 2:15 and saw #489 backing down from the north end of the yard and returning to the engine house. Thanks to whomever decided to bring her out to where we could see her!

Indeed it is the 489 which steamed up for the first time today. The reason it didn't start up on the north side is because the 484 was blocking the tracks. As far as I know, everything checked out pretty good.
