Interesting piece of track equipment is noted on the north coal tower cam. Might be a set checking alignment of the track.

I think that is what it was. It surprised me 12 years ago on my first "ride" when I noticed a first rate optical tamper-liner machine parked on the linking track at Lava. Then a few days later I noticed that the D&S has the same brand and type. The technology is fairly new, the first ones came out of Switzerland around 1970 and now are common on the wide gauge but I had no idea there were any on the C&TS or any other narrow gauge line.
