Our 5th DH day in a row commences with 484 at the pit and 489 waiting behind.

484 backs down the main to the coal dock as 489, barley discernible from the smoke, is at the tank.

489 now backs down the main. Then she sits stationary to allow 484 to back away from the dock.

Now 489 accesses the dock as 484 heads to the tank again for the coal to be washed.

Aspen season is in full swing and the railroad is cashing in on it which is great.

Maybe it's just my aging memory, but it seems like there have been more double-headers this season than in the past. Is ridership up significantly, is it a locomotive wear & tear issue or something else?......hoping it's significantly more riders.

Train 216 departure: 489 helper, 484 road engine and 10 cars. Tim, the reason for all these double headers is definitely ridership. Although remember 484 was being tested on one on September 18th.

RGS Goose 5 finally leaves Chama behind to star at a Goose event in Ridgway. To be honest, even though I strongly dislike diesels (and that includes 15 and 19), I will thoroughly miss the Goose as it always puts a smile on my face. "Honk honk!" see you next year!
