Morning preparations: I am finding it interesting that after operating the first week, 489 has been in the shop for service then outside but cold. Now she is over in front of the roundhouse parked. Realize that as long as the boiler is at ambient no time is put on 1472 clock so this is good. Guess they are holding is as a backup when another of the locomotives needs maintenance since currently they have 3 K36's and the 463 all hot.

I seem to remember the 487 came out 3 years ago and the 488 last year. As to 484 and 489 not sure.

The last time I remember is 2006. There may be a more recent time that I'm forgetting.

Jason, about the 489's last rebuild, AFAIK, it started in 2001, but due to the new FRA Part 230 rules, the engine needed major boiler & running gear work. It was completed between 2008 & early 2009 when it returned to service. It had a derailment on the second day in 2009 after the trailing truck came apart.
Sharon, about the last rebuild on the 484, it started after closing day 2012, and was completed in the winter of 2013-2014. The next engine to undergo the 1472 day rebuild was the 487 (started after closing day 2014, completed well into the 2015 season), followed by the 488.
Based on that, the 489 will undergo the 1472 day rebuild either after this season or after the 2019 season.

Would not be surprised to see 463 go out tomorrow on 216 as part of a double header.

Arrival of train 215: The CDoT cams at Cumbres did not update for 30 minutes across 3pm MDT so no pictures from the train there.

I received a special request for a video of the train as it returns from the wye, so tonight we see the return from the depot cam and tomorrow I will do it from the south tipple cam.
