463 is no more. Welcome 455. I can see her tender painted in the Sunrise effect, in the Round House, but there is too much reflection to get a decent picture. When they pull it out I will post a picture of the whole engine.
4 of the 315 crew is staying here in the Hotel with me, so I will pick their brains and pass the plans along.
Sharon I was studying the sander this morning and it appeared to be leaking at the funnel below the cyclone. The hose looked fine.

Nice shot Frank, look forward to the tender. Also, when is 315 going to Antonito. Can you get a shot of the cyclone? Are you referring to the conical bottom of the cyclone itself or something outside of it? I left before the final piping.

Great shot of 463 ( now 455 ). I too can't wait to see her with her tender. Atmospherics were perfect this morning, you could hear 487 whistle as it exited the narrows, made me wish I was there.

Nice photography Frank. Noticed the two domes on Locomotive #455. Can you describe which is the sand dome? Also, there is an apparatus in the lower right corner of your picture. I am guessing that it is used to help draw the steam and smoke from the engine and assist with pulling air into the firebox as well. Any thoughts? Thanks for spending time with the C&TSR. Have you thought about applying for citizenship in New Mexico?

OK Rick, let me see if I can answer your questions. First the sand dome is the one in the front, i.e. closest to the stack. Look at the top of the 2 domes, the rear one has the pops on it so is the steam dome, while the front one just has a cover. The apparatus you see is what the crews use to provide the draft necessary to start a fire in the locomotive.

Sharon, you are right on.........................forward dome is sand, with pipe leading down to drive wheels..........aft dome is steam dome and has safety valves and whistle.
The fan assembly [motor driven with v-belts] is probably placed on the stack to induce air flow thru the firebox.

Thank you both, Sharon and Mr. Ed. The descriptions of the domes and "apparatus" are easily understood and appreciated. It is my understanding that the sand received through the dome is stored above the boiler to keep the sand dry. Rick
Thanks again.

Just as yesterday, if the train has stopped it has 8 cars which would be right since 216 went east with 8 yesterday.

the front dome is the sand dome Rick. The two tubes you see running from the front dome, one dumps sand under the front driver and the other one sands the third driver. Did I pass the test. The other apparatus is a leaverite. I don't know what it is so I'll leaverite there.
I was born in Ancho, NM, (Google it) so I am a Manolo. Thanks for the nice comments and I know you have a sense of humor, so thanks for letting me smart off.

Sharon, below the cyclone, there is an apparatus that the sand goes into that is funnel shaped and the hose hooks to the bottom. Great job on your presentation today.
