Full Day of Work Ahead _2017.08.01_.jpg (86.45 KiB) Viewed 2680 times
The skies are clear and everything is in place for a full day of work. The south camera settings have not been color corrected for some time. The north facing camera does a nice job of showing blue skies and sometimes snow on the mountains. Yet, the view from the tipple cameras are action filled and do show what Volunteer Friends can accomplish on the ground.
Locomotive #488 prepares to take today's #216 Train by dropping ashes, taking on water, loading up coal and then backs off to the Chama Depot, with three toots of its whistle. . .
, Locomotive #489 coasts down from Cumbres Pass with a string of 8 cars, including the gondola complete with waving fans and a cowboy giving the camera a big hello.
. . . I have always believed that this is a rewarding time of day to check-in with the WebCams. The images remind me of the long shadows and golden colors we enjoyed during trips to the San Juan Mountains. . .

"Frank Smith" Mail Car
. You said that you have a picture of the mail car, and all it needed was a bit of gold lettering to make it serviceable. It is apparent that it is an indisputable fact that you are correct. I don't remember it being quite this color when I last saw it. But, that was about the time it was to be used in the movies? Thanks for your fine image. Yep, lots of good things happening. . .
If anything has changed Rick, I'll send you an up-dated picture next week.

There is no task too difficult for the Friends' Volunteers to tackle. They are constantly working to restore the facilities of the Cumbres-Toltec Scenic Railroad to their original condition. The coal tipple and sand house are long standing icons of the railroad. Soon both will be returned to full working condition to be used on a daily basis. Jason Rose is pictured in the upper right hand corner of the tipple cleaning a newly installed webcam, several years ago. The webcams are well on the way to becoming icons of this fine railroad. This rehabilitation effort is just another example of the good things happening. Thanks to all.
. The installation of the Sand House Dome is uniquely chronicled by Roger Hogan using a camera-drone, which is one of the most current examples of modern videography. He continues to make his personalized contributions to Friends and guests alike. The following video of the installation of the sand house dome is one of his most dynamic successes. Thanks once more Roger. .

Thanks all for the posting on daily activities, great job. The Friends and Railroad staff have done an excellent job of restoring all part of railroad to better than original condition. It is quite and improvement from my first visit in the early 70's
