5-26-17 Opening Day Eve

Well just twenty four hours to go! I was unable to watch earlier. What did I miss? At my age this is a lot more exciting than Christmas Eve.

Hi Bill,
Well, lots of hammering, sawing, and what not with the boxcar conversion and sand tower rehab viewing from the south yard cam. Switched around 487 and 489 - 463 now sits simmering behind 489 on the east lead to the engine house. They filled the water tank for the speeder chaser. And I am sure some of the others can fill you in on things I have missed - I am like you, can hardly turn away - sure wish I could drop everything and head on out!

Thanks John for the info. much appreciated. Doesn't sound like I missed much. Again thanks to Jason, Rich and everyone involved with the cameras for giving us this opportunity.

Bill,My part was just a small one. During a discussion with John Cole the original idea was brought up by him. I then discussed it with several people one of them brought it up with Dick Cowles who turned out to be the prime mover and fund raiser. Joe Kanocz suggested we contact an IT person he knew (Jason Rose) and he made it all happen. Like many things with the Friends it was a team effort but without Dick and Jason I don’t know if it all would have come together.

Like everything the Friends do, this was a team effort.

I thought that 463 went back to Antonito yesterday with the hospital train.

Sharon,
My mistake, I am having a hard time making them out in the shadows - thought I saw it back last night. Do you know if we are seeing the 488 inside the west bay now?

Don't know if 488 has been moved over to the west side. As far as the 463, crews in Antonito have to be busy today lettering the tender.

Right now the crews are getting the cars sorted for tomorrows first train. They moved one of the flat roof coaches over onto the 3 regular cars so maybe an 8 car train tomorrow.

By the look of things now, we may very well have an opening day double header since right now it seems there are 5 of the flat roof coaches in front.

Switching continues so who know, but the railroad, what we will have be train time tomorrow.

Sharon,

The railroad sent out an email a week or 2 ago confirming a K-36 double header out of Chama and a #463 and #315 out of Antonito tomorrow. It's going to be a great day!
