A quiet yard for now, but if all goes to plan based on past years, we should see the engineer school train head to Cumbres this morning, back for lunch then a 2nd trip this afternoon. Train 216 will of course leave at it's normal time as well.

487 has come out, now whether its the locomotive for 216 or the school not known. Also where did the 489 go?

489 went inside West side a while ago. Total guess is 487 will be school train, that's what they worked with yesterday afternoon.

With 487 going back to the house on the west side, everything is up in the air as to what locomotive does what.

They are doing something around the east house lead with a digger. Can't see details but can hear the scraping of the digger bucket. 463 has back almost into the house to get out of the way. Replacing ties maybe?

If my memory still serves (not always a guarantee) there is a well head or, going 180 degrees the other way, a dry well in that area.

They also seem to be working on something on #483 there. What's the chance they are doing something to put in rail to move that loco? Lots of talk about that last year, a trade, a display loco, etc. Haven't heard anything for a while -- but one thing I remember mentioned was to move her, they could put back an old switch that used to exist there. Just thoughts here -- I may be way off base,

I got a better look at where they are and it wouldn't be the well. That is a bit east and north of the N/E corner of the engine house.

Someone with what looks like a tape measure checking the track near where 487 had the issue yesterday.

When I was there last summer I talked with the guys restoring the exterior of 483 and about the fact that the railroad had removed the switch to the track the 483 sits on when they redid the east lead awhile back. Could they be working on putting one back?

My very personal opinion, I would like to see '83 used as a display engine near one of the entrances and visible from the street. Where she is now could serve the railroad far better were it freed up and connected to the rest of the yard.

Yes ma'am I did! I'll have full version of that later, cams started their hiccups about that time, so it's not perfect either.
Did they just pick up rail from the West lead?

They did take a piece of rail back to the pile that is this side of the ties.

Sharon, moving old equipment can be a crap shoot. Sometimes they're 'glued fast' other times they come out as slick as you'd please. 168 sat in one sot for how long? BTW anyone from the D&S been hanging around?

With the exchange with the D&S being shot down at that board meeting, I would more guess they are going to cosmetically fix it up and display it in a better location. As the board pointed out this is a special locomotive for the C&TS.
Don't know if the sounds I am hearing are coming from inside the house or at 483 site.

Looks like 484 and 487 will have to use the south side of the house tonight to bed down. Would also think, secondary to safety issues, they are not letting the general public close to this operation.

You know I did not even notice the 463 vs 483, we are focused on the 483 and my mind just made the leap. Heck, I just had to correct the same mistake.

The first school train returns, about an hour later after lunch they head out for the 2nd run to Cumbres. Work is being done on 483 at the same time.
Here's a bit of video real time of the slow movement of 483. Obviously not moving as easily as they would like, so we'll see what happens tomorrow. Anyone that's on the ground there that can fill us in, details would be appreciated!! Once they are fully done with moving, I'll put together a more complete video of all the work.
