487 pushing 484 and 463 back into the East side - didn't see what happened earlier, but will have the video up once I can review and edit. Great sound with 487 working hard.

For once this week I was in the right place at the right time. 487 backed out of the engine house, picked up 484, pulled forward to the ash pit, backed onto 463, then spotted 463 back in the engine house. Then 484 was left outside and 487 landed out front as well after a quick drink. Perhaps more after lunch!

Here's the video of the move, excellent description by Bruce above. Video starts after 487 got 484 from the back and was headed out the front of the shop. I was out all morning, but after reviewing recordings looks like this is the only activity of the day so far.

Jeez! Dragging a couple other locomotives around all day seems to be the task for 487!

It was really fun to watch all that.
I look forward to seeing the video. I'd love to see that again.

Editing now Jeff - will be uploading as soon as it finishes. Will be split into two separate videos, but I didn't cut out much - just a little to get the 2nd one a bit shorter.
You know it occurred to me a little while ago, we once again have all 5 operational locomotives in Chama -- though I guess technically we can't count it with 488 torn down - but still, I'll say all 5 for the record!!!!

Here's the first one - 487 pulls a tender-less 489 from the shop, then while sitting at the ash pit the tender is brought to the locomotive and attached.

Thanks for the video, Larry.
Opening day is coming soon. At least one of those babies is going to have to head east in the very near future.
Did I read somewhere that 463 might be starting the season in Antonito?

I've heard 463 will go over to Antonito next week, 484 will lead from Chama on opening day. Those are unconfirmed, but what I was told, obviously those can change up until the last minute. Last year we had a double-header on opening day, maybe we'll get lucky enough there too. I think they get a lot of last minute ticket sales, people waiting to see what the weather is and so on.

Here's the 2nd video - this one runs about 17 minutes. 487 pushes 489 back and gets 484, 484 is brought to in front of the roundhouse. 487 then brings 489 inside the East bay of the shop. I think earlier 463 must have been pushed in behind the shop. 484 is then moved to out in front of the East bay, and 487 goes over to the West bay of the shop. Lots of good sound, and some good smoke in here as 487 works.
Assuming they are still on the winter schedule, the shop crews may be off tomorrow so our next likely activity will be on Monday.
