10-28-15 Yard Work Day

484 starts the morning moving to the left side shop track, and pushing 489 inside a bit. Perhaps 489 will have the tender removed.

Should be a might crowded in the left side since 488 is in there. Maybe they plan to shove the 88 out and get its tender also.

That may well be - now 489 at the ash pit.

489s tender has been separated from the locomotive. 489 is now inside on the left side of the shop, tender is being placed now in front of the shop left side as 484 awaits that move to be completed.

Out running errands but thanks to Larry's alert peeked in to see 484 at the pit. Sorting things out for winter work it appears. Thanks Larry!

Later 484's tender is removed and pulled away.

 Both 484 and 489 have dropped their fires, and have been relieved of their tenders. The "fat lady" is singing.

Yup - unexpected to see that this morning. Will have video of all the morning work later this afternoon - and now a quiet Chama yard.

I got some screenshots of 484 being parted from it's tender if they're needed.

The video of the morning's moves.

10-28-15 - 484 moves to hook up to cold 489, bringing 489 to ash pit for tender draining. Tender is then separated, 489 is pushed into the left side of shop, tender placed outside in front of shop door. Video run time is a little over 16 minutes.

10-28-15 After taking care of 489, then has her tender drained, tender is moved in front of 489's tender, and 484 moves into right side of shop. Steam is gone in Chama, for a while.

Observation and a question: Just was thinking about those USMC Toy-For-Tots extra trains in December. The one in Chama is contingent on the bridge repair being finished in time. However, on these two post season repositioning trains management shipped a full train set of 8 passenger cars over to Antonito for winter work/storage. How many passenger cars remain in Chama for this possible December extra?

Shortly after 12:00 a load of ties heads for the bridge work.

As to number we need someone on site, but there do appear to be some of the flat roofed passenger cars in south yard. As we know, both regular sets are now in Antonito. Watching 484 back into the house sans tender was a sad site but we know in the spring all will be back to normal.

Just before 2:00 and it's time for a run to the gas station and a run for ties.

I seem to remember that there was a post recently by either one of the Larrys or Jason which said that due to the bridge work we would probably see the locomotives placed in winter storage quicker than normal. This is exactly what has happened today. I would say all are tenderless at this point, though the 463 is a ? so we need a "on the ground" report on its status.
