10-24-15 Charter Train Today - then.......

Some snow on a moonlit Cumbres pass still awaits for today's charter passengers. Should be some nice snow shots made. After today the long quiet winter season will really start to set in with only the hospital train left for next week.

I don't get home on Saturday until near noon, most of the yard action will be long over by then - but hopefully will have video recorded and to post of the triple header departure.

Larry- this capture brought out the poet in me....

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below.
When, what to my wondering eyes will soon appear?
But a narrow gauge train, pulled by a tripleheader!

It's the Night before the Charter!

I don't think C Clement Moore would mind.

Locomotive 1 heads for the tank as number two comes up on the ash pit. Triple header prep is in motion.

Locomotive one backs down the main. A truck is by the paint locker and folks with flashlights are outside of it.

Loco one has made it to the coal dock as number two slides down to the tank.

I slept with the window open last night and the wind is blowing just right this morning so that I woke up to the smell of coal smoke.

Better than coffee.

463 is now at the ash pit as the third loco so most likely will be on the point of the freight. Meanwhile loco 1 has cleared the fuel dock and waits at the yard throat as 463 moves up to the water tank.

At 6:45 the first loco has moved onto the cut of cars. Meanwhile locomotive 2 is at the coal dock as 463 backs down the main.

First light is near on the horizon as smokes drifts up to the tipple cam.

463 is being fueled so it won't be long before the charter heads east.

They moved the train forward slightly making for this nice steam and smoke display.

I am surprised that they are doing it with all 3 locomotives in front instead of the more traditional way of 2 in front and 1 somewhere toward the rear. Though for the riders guess not having a smoking locomotive close to them is nice.

The parking lot is jammed this morning.

Here are 4 shots from them moving the train forward to load position. The last shows that the locomotives are almost out of the yard yet the cabeese are just by the depot.

Thanks Larry for all of the early morning shots. Sure glad I tuned in when I did just before the first departure. What a great couple of weekends we have had! Oh Jason, put me down for a bottle of coal smoke too.

I was able to get good Verizon reception all the way to Cumbres when I was there in August. Antonito was the problem and it is well know how poor cell service is around the C&TS yard.

Here's video of the morning departure. Due to camera skipping all morning the times are out of sync by about 5 seconds, so sound is off just a bit - but it's not bad. I'll get to doing some other edits later.
