487 is switching cars and there are people walking around, so maybe?

487 took a long drink before moving to the pit for cleaning.

Looking from the depot cam lots of smoke and steam is seen.

488 has now come to the pit as 487 heads back to south yard.

This piece of MoW equipment that spent the night is now leaving. The operation to turn the equipment around was interesting, should be on Larry S's video.

489 comes out next.

487 has gotten the other 4 passenger cars from south yard and is moving them. It is something we do not normally see, they are using the front coupler.

They seemed to have pushed these cars way down the main toward the wye and left them for now.

The 484 is now moving to the pit and the 463 has whistled to move also.

As 488 and 489 back toward the main they are bathed in steam and smoke.

With the 463 at the pit, everything is almost ready for John's photographs.

Dang it! I'm working only 60 miles away and I'm gonna miss the photo shoot. It'll be late afternoon before I can get over there.

Bummer...

We will continue to watch, but it is looking like they are going to stage the shoot west of the depot so we will not be able to watch it on the cams. It is also very nice to be watching all 5 locomotives moving about the yard at the same time. This rarely happens.

It's post-season. No trains are running. And yet, more than 100 people are watching the cameras this morning.

That's too bad Jason. So near and yet so far.
But, it is a good day for that picture. Plenty of steam and even lighting. It should make for a well detailed photo.

Yep, we had figured that out and too bad they are doing it out of camera range. Probably once this is over today, we will see tenders coming off next week. I can see the outline of the placement in the south cam, 463 will probably end up on the main and the 4 K36's arranged on the yard tracks, maybe in numerical order with 484 next to 463.

Moving two more into position. We have a good man on the ground who is covering it:)

Tough break Jason. When you get there tomorrow take a big whiff of coal smoke and hot valve oil for all of the rest of us. Also if it wasn't for you and your team we wouldn't be able to be watching, thanks again.

Well, other than having to turn all the locomotives and bring them back to the house the show is over I would guess, I have things to do so this was fun and I look forward to the photographs of the shoot to be posted so we can see more then 5 tenders in the distance.

Larry, did you get a video of the return "parade" to north end of the yard and back to the engine house?

While watching it live just before the set up, I saw Jim Wrinn, Trains Magazine Editor (& Kate) walking towards the coal tipple. He waved at the web camera. He told me on Facebook chat, "yes" he is there. For those that use Facebook, on Jim's Timeline page, he has a very nice photo of the 5 engine photo shoot already posted.

For now a couple videos of today's loco parade - I'll work on the rest of the morning when I can, likely later this evening. Nice to see so much activity, though we're not far from the real quiet times.

Very nice - not something we are likely to see very often on the cams - THANKS!

I happened to tune in "Live" when the "Parade" started, and couldn't believe my eyes as to what I was seeing! Now, that is history being made! Thanks for posting the videos Larry Sullivan! Proud to be a "Friends" member.

Even though the locomotives are back at the house, a number of photographers are taking advantage of the light to shoot them. Also for anyone who is a member of Train Orders, they have posted some shots of the 5 locomotives posed.

Even with just getting a view of the 5 tenders it was a fun time watching all the moves it took to get it set up.
Thanks to all who have made all of this possible. Its going to be a long cold winter while we wait for next year to start.

We have tomorrow with the photo freight triple header up the hill. According to their plan, they will have breakfast at 0530 MDT. Should mean the train will leave early. Also its coming back to Chama tomorrow afternoon after turning at Osier. No mention of anything Sunday. There is a night shoot today so that should look good on the cams.-

Those fortunate to be there for the shoot are gathering as snow capped mountains glisten near sunset. The charter should generate fire and ice comparisons as they climb to the top.

A few more videos from the day.

10-23-15 488 starts the day from the South side of the shop, heads down to the wye, and comes back with two flat cars that are spotted with the passenger cars in the North yard. After spotting the cars, 488 headed for water and ash pit service while workers began getting the MOW equipment set for the day.
Image

10-23-15 A piece of MOW equipment - I believe this may be a Ballast Regulator - as Sharon noted in a post above, a very interesting way to be turned. Looks like by human power!!!
Image

10-23-15 487 also got some of the passenger coaches from the South yard and spotted them well past the depot on the main. Perhaps to be used on the end of the charter or for the hospital train next week. Also I let the video run as the 5 locomotive shoot broke up and they went to the wye. I have to check if I have anything better on my laptop I was using to record the depot cam - will check when home and put here if I do.
