10-3-15 A Day to Give You "Goose Bumps" :)

Today is going to be a crisp fall day after the last several unseasonable summery ones. A high temp of only 66 in the valley and cooler in the high country after last night's thunder storms passed through the area. "Goose Bumps" will abound today!

Goose #5 sits under a light beside the engine house visible in the cam shot. It will depart for Osier at 8:30 and have multiple run-bys along the way. Hopefully it will be in Osier along with the Friend's 463X MOW Special. Goose 5 will be departing Osier following 216 clearing the west switch there. Anticipating a great day on the RR. ;-) Got Goose Bumps!!!

Looks like a double header on the 216, the 215 crew added 3 cars yesterday.

At this point it looks like 489 and 488 on 216 today. They are currently starting to get ready. That is 489 on the right and 488 on the left and you can just barely see the Goose through the smoke. No way of knowing but that may be Larry G, dark blue jacket, in the second shot of 489 at the coal dock with 488 headed to the tank.

The setup looks like 489 road engine and 488 helper.

It's hard to see with 488 sitting by the tipple but I think that 489 has added a 4th extra coach so 11 cars today.

They should have 2 gondolas on a train that size.

True, the rider gon will be packed. Further that one small snake counter will be swamped.

With the train so long today, the 488 is almost where I would grab the departure shot so here it is. Then the departure sequence.

Just grabbed this off the Cumbres CDoT cam. Good thing no trains in the area.

VERY NICE! Ok - I think maybe that's the season winner!

Goose just a few minutes out from the yard.

215 came in with 13 cars including 2 rider gons and a caboose. 484 was slipping on that little grade in front of the depot. Nice sounds for the video. Would this make today's 215 the longest regular train of the season?

I do think it may be the longest regular train - will have to review the season to be sure, I know we've had a couple 215's come in with a caboose, and the longest going out was 11 on 216 I think.

Sounds captured, and the video will be up in a bit.

Here's today's video review -- I'll do a video of the early morning preparations later, it's lots of good smoke and lots of action - I just don't have time to get it now. Long off-season lies ahead to go back and capture things I haven't posted already.

Looking at Larry G's photographs, wonder if the people in the trailing rider gon and caboose were a special group since they were unloading coolers and stuff after 215 arrived in Chama.
