Both 216 and 215 smoke it up at departure on the unofficial end of summer and start of the fall season. Also the start of school....... Engineer School Train that is! It is out on the main too.

Should also see 2 trips to Cumbres today by the School train.

1st trip completed, train turned and parked for lunch at noon
2nd trip started in a cloud of smoke and steam at 12:45 - short stop to take on water.

The hiball is given to the 216 to leave Chama. Ignore the date on the photograph. 488 gets the train moving as it approached the coal tipple.

484 brings in the 215 at 4:05. Open gon filled with riders enjoying the beautiful afternoon. It's back from the wye at 4:26 before the student train returns. Later 484 cuts off and heads for the ashpit and service.

They left the 3 extra coaches which went out on 216 yesterday in Antonito.

The School Train returns at 4:45 as it passes 484 at the ashpit.

Here's today's run of videos.

09-07-15 The day starts early with #489 being put to work with the engineer/fireman school students. First departure of the day at 8am, as they left the yard 488 was making the trip to the ash pit for duty on 216.

09-07-15 Train 216 Departs about on time with #488 in the lead.

09-07-15 After 216 left the fire speeder was still sitting at the ash pit. Soon had the answer as to why, something we've all dealt with at some point. Looks like they brought a battery from the shop to jump-start the speeder. After he left, he spooked a mule deer that ran across the tracks in the North Yard.

09-07-15 About 11:40 the school train returned after it's first run of the day. After turning they stopped by the depot for a lunch break.

09-07-15 After lunch the school train heads out again -- will give you the dual cam view on this one.

09-07-15 Train 215 Returns a couple minutes past 4pm local.

09-07-15 Finally the 2nd run of the school train returns, about 4:40PM local. After turning at the wye, they spot the train next to the main by the depot. Ready for tomorrow's run to Antonito.
