A morning shower at 7:00 MDT on Cumbres and the lush greens in the yard prove that fire danger along the western slope of the line is very low so far this year. Once less thing to complicate operations so far!!! Will this enhance or mute the fall colors to come?

That green makes for a beautiful ride which I am looking forward to in August.

Each month has its own scenic charm for sure during the season.
Today's weather continues to look a bit overcast as it is about to begin.

As the train was leaving a couple of police cars raced east on 17 with sirens screaming.

489 pulls the 216 out on time under overcast skies as a couple of photographers walk in the yard after train passes.

488 has been out of sight all day, hope no major issues found after it came in last evening.

I am hoping the same thing. Last I saw of it yesterday was behind the engine house (from the depot cam) where they normally take it.

484 brings the 215 in just after 4:00 with stormy skies threatening rain.

The sky did look interesting as the 215 came in.
is 484 the only hot locomotive in the yard right now? I still haven't seen 488 today, and 463 looks awfully cool.

The yard was eerily quiet and empty all day with all the Friend's project cars in the swamp. Looked in a couple of times between trains and saw no activity. Perhaps 488 was getting a boiler wash?

463 has been cold all day, 488 I think is inside, and likely cold - we should find out shortly when 484 goes in.
It looked to me like 488 got pushed out the back once 484 went inside - hard to tell with the trees, but pretty sure I saw movement.

Within an hour after 215 arrived the sky opened up and a gully washer went through the yard. No dust for a few days now:)

Today's video - unfortunately it seems I had a power outage this morning that outlasted my BBS, so no 216 departure today. I put together a little video of #484 preparation instead.
07-14-15 Locomotive #484 prepares for the days work. Interesting hearing what I think is the steam generator starting up, almost jet engine sounds!
07-14-15 Train 215 beats an imminent thunder storm back to the yard, but the crew gets wet at the ash pit.
