North Camera Update (Sep 12)

Unread postby Jason Rose » Fri Sep 12, 2014 7:30 am

We're surmising that something hit the north camera, possibly moving the camera inside the housing.

Mr. Forney is still in town and is making tentative plans to take a look at it next week.

Note: Steve is doing some tweaking this morning and the cams will be up and down.

*If possible, they'll be on for the departure.

Acting on a suggestion from John Engs, I used an auto-focus feature on the camera to resolve the issue. Apparently the lens cover is so dirty it was forcing the camera to partially focus near instead of far.

Ya learn something new every day... no matter how much it hurts.

In my Tuba case. All Tuba players have capes.

I know that was a completely random answer. But, it's Friday and I'm tired.

You're thinking of a Sousaphone. Not the same thing. My Tuba sits in my lap, mostly.

Now if you want to talk about Contrabass Bugles and sore shoulders, I'll be happy to share some stories. But, I'm betting few, if any, of the folks on this forum have any idea what I'm talking about.

My cousin actually preferred to march with his tuba rather than a Sousaphone. Not sure why.

In my humble (and experienced) opinion, Sousaphones are terrible instruments. The best "marching tuba" is a Contrabass Bugle (preferably in the Key of G). There's simply nothing in the world like it.

Here's a photo of the Contrabass line from a Drum & Bugle Corps that I was once a member of. This really is a LOT of fun, but chasing trains is less stressful.

My apologies for drifting so far off topic. I'll shut up now.

Jason I used to play a sousaphone on a couple of parades for our marching band, and was wondering how hard it is to balance these tubas while marching. I normally played tenor drums in parades, and trumpet in concerts so my exposure was limited.

They're easier to balance than they look. And, the quality of sound is well worth the extra effort.
